Perhimpunan besar-besaran yang dirancang pada 31 Disember, bersempena dengan sambutan Tahun Baru adalah satu revolusi untuk menjatuhkan kerajaan, kata kolumnis Utusan Malaysia, Awang Selamat.

Dalam akhbar edisi Ahad Mingguan Malaysia hari ini, Awang Selamat berkata, tarikh berkenaan dipilih penganjur tidak lain hanyalah untuk menarik perhatian media asing kononnya rakyat Malaysia memberikan sokongan terhadap perhimpunan yang menggunakan nama "Bersih" itu.

"Setelah gagal untuk menggulingkan kerajaan menerusi amalan demokrasi dan peti undi, strategi sekali lagi beralih kepada cara revolusi.

"Setakat ini, belum ada pemimpin utama parti pembangkang tampil mengaitkan diri dengan perhimpunan itu tetapi ramai yang sudah boleh menduga siapa dalangnya.

"Maka nanti media asing akan merakamkan kononnya perhimpunan itu mendapat sambutan luar biasa daripada rakyat. Itulah yang dimahukan oleh pemimpin pembangkang tertentu bagi mendapatkan campur tangan luar agar menekan kerajaan Malaysia," kata Awang Selamat.

Beliau berkata, perhimpunan berkenaan turut meniru perhimpunan anti kerajaan rakyat Thailand baru-baru ini yang memaksa Parlimen negara berkenaan dibubarkan.

"Di samping itu, si dalang mahu menangguk di air keruh dengan membakar lagi sentimen rakyat berikutan isu kenaikan tarif elektrik dan kadar tol.

"Isu berkaitan kos sara hidup mudah panas, yang menguji mana-mana kerajaan. Situasi Malaysia sebenarnya tidaklah seteruk banyak negara," katanya.

Awang Selamat bagaimanapun berkata, beliau tidak bersetuju dengan kenaikan tarif elektrik dan tol.

"Awang pun tidak suka kenaikan tarif elektrik dan tol tetapi wajarkah diburukkan lagi dengan mencetuskan ketegangan yang akhirnya memudaratkan negara.

"Revolusi bukan penyelesaian. Jika ia penyelesaian terbaik, lebih sesuai dirancang untuk menjatuhkan kerajaan negeri Selangor dan Pulau Pinang yang banyak kepincangan," katanya, dan menambah, rakyat akan menolak himpunan sedemikian.

"Marilah kita bertanya siapa pemimpin yang akan mendapat manfaat politik paling besar daripada perhimpunan itu nanti," katanya.

Sekumpulan mahasiswa yang menggelarkan diri mereka Gerakan Turun Kos Sara Hidup (Turun) akan menganjurkan perhimpunan pada malam ambang tahun baru di Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur pada 31 Disember untuk membantah kenaikan kos kehidupan.
