Dolphins and Orca Mingle With Paddleboarder in Shallow Water

Two dolphins and an orca greeted a paddleboarder in shallow waters off a New Zealand coast in October 2023, footage from two separate occasions shows.

Footage provided by Instagram user @justinserville shows two dolphins swimming next to him on October 4, and a killer whale checking him out on October 7. “Hello, beautiful,” user @justinserville is heard saying to the orca.

According to the Department of Conservation in New Zealand, orcas prefer deeper water but can be found in shallow bays and estuaries, and in inland seas. User @justinserville recently encountered a pair of orcas while he was paddleboarding in March 2024. Credit: @justinserville via Storyful
