NFL Star Odell Beckham Jr Removed From Flight in Miami

NFL free agent Odell Beckham Jr was removed by police from an aircraft before takeoff at Miami International Airport on November 27, after officers were dispatched to a reported “medical emergency.”

“Fearing that Mr Beckham was seriously ill, and that his condition would worsen through the expected 5 hour flight, the attendants called for police and fire rescue,” a police statement cited by NFL.com said. “Beckham was escorted to the non-secure area of the terminal by the officers where he made other arrangements,” the statement said.

NFL.com also cited a statement by Beckham’s attorney, Daniel Davilier.

“Mr Beckham fell asleep with his blanket over his head, which is his normal practice for long flights,” Davilier said. “He was awaken and told that the plane was back at the gate and that he needed to get off the plane because he did not put his seatbelt on when asked. He responded that he was asleep, and that he would put his seatbelt on at that time. He was informed that it was too late, and that either he would have to get off the plane or everyone would have to deplane.”

Video by Carlos Gauna, a filmmaker who was returning home to California, shows Odell Beckham Jr being escorted through the airport.

Gauna told Storyful: “Odell was quiet and didn’t seem to cause a loud disturbance on the plane. We were informed it was an ill passenger. The paramedics arrived and then quickly left.”

“Once authorities arrived we were asked to deplane,” Gauna said.

Beckham tweeted on the same date: “Never in my life have I experienced what just happened to me.”

The incident was reported around 9:30 am. American Airlines said the flight departed at around 10:45 am. Credit: Carlos Gauna via Storyful
