Ominous Storm Clouds Churn Over North Carolina

Severe storms produced at least one tornado in North Carolina on Thursday, May 26, the National Weather Service (NWS) reported.

This footage of storm clouds was posted by Kelly Meade, who said he shot it between Kingstown and Polkville in Cleveland County on Thursday evening.

The NWS said Meade’s footage of Thursday’s “scary-looking storm” shows a “low-hanging wall cloud with evidence of rotation.”

On Friday, the service confirmed that an EF-2 tornado hit Iredell County around 7 pm the previous evening with estimated peak winds of 115 mph.

Over the course of Thursday’s weather event, the NWS station servicing the greater Greenville-Spartanburg area issued a total of 11 tornado warnings, nine flash flood warnings, and eight severe thunderstorm warnings. Credit: Kelly Meade via Storyful
