Pro-Reform Demonstrators Heckle Opposition Marching Near Knesset in Jerusalem

Protesters gathered outside Israel’s legislature, the Knesset, in Jerusalem on Monday, March 27, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired Israel’s defense minister amid continued turmoil over judicial reform plans.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant was fired from his post on Sunday, one day after he had called for legislation regarding the government’s judicial overhaul to be paused, according to the Times of Israel.

A general strike was announced on Monday. There were no departures from Ben Gurion Airport, banks and stores were closed, and health care services were expected to be impacted, local media reported.

On Monday afternoon, Haaretz reported Netanyahu was set to freeze the judicial overhaul following weeks of protests.
