Satellite Imagery Shows Traffic Jams at Russian Borders After Putin's Mobilization Order

Long lines formed at Russia’s borders with Georgia and Mongolia after President Vladimir Putin announced a mobilization of hundreds of thousands of troops, newly released satellite imagery shows.

Images released by Maxar Technologies show a long line of vehicles along Russia’s A301 road towards the Lars checkpoint crossing with Georgia on September 25. A second set of images show similar lines at the Khyagt border post between Russia and Mongolia on September 23.

In a statement released on September 24, the Ministry of Internal Affairs in North Ossetia said “a significant accumulation” of about 2,300 passenger vehicles was lined up heading toward the border with Georgia. Credit: ©2022 Maxar Technologies via Storyful
