Strong Winds Topple Trees and Prompt Park Closures in San Diego

High winds whipped through southern California on Thursday, January 26, toppling trees and prompting park closures.

Footage by David Peery shows a fallen tree at San Diego’s Balboa Park on Thursday morning. According to Peery, a woman was injured at the scene.

Local media reported, citing police, that a eucalyptus tree was uprooted and fell on a woman, who was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday afternoon, the City of San Diego warned people to avoid the area as crews worked to remove branches from streets in the area.

On Friday, the National Weather Service forecast a “much less windy day” in the area. Credit: David Peery via Storyful
