The Wagoneer is coming back

Jeep is planning for a flagship return by bearing the legendary "Wagoneer" nameplate.

If the current Grand Cherokee is still to small to your taste, then fret no more. The infamous 4x4 maker from the United States is making a comeback with the Wagoneer. Slated to be developed within the next few years, the new Wagoneer is said to be the biggest Jeep if its made into reality.

Although the all-new model isn't going to align itself to the original name, inside sources from Jeep says that the next flagship model will be named "Grand Wagoneer". One of the main purpose for this last-minute expansion is to share a cut out from the profitable pie that the Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GL-Class and Volvo XC90 has been eating up all this while.

Currently under a portfolio expansion, Jeep is set to launch a new entry-level SUV by 2014. But sources has indicated that the new model will lack a seven-seat option, which shows that it will be smaller than the Audi Q7.

To us, reviving an iconic nameplate shows that Jeep is serious about the next Wagoneer. Jeep has to conduct plenty of market research and feasibility to find a proper market for the upcoming Wagoneer, but as Jeep UK's brand director Nigel Land mentioned, the next Wagoneer might not make into the UK due to its sheer road presence and size.
