Watch live World Cup action anywhere with Astro’s digital offering

For the first time in Malaysia, the live telecast of every match played in the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Brazil, will be made available anywhere, anytime.

Astro is offering a complete digital experience of the World Cup 2014 (WC2014) for Malaysians with a comprehensive web and mobile coverage of the event, in addition to the usual high-definition or standard definition TV experience at home.

At the official launch of Astro's offerings for WC2014, held at The Roof in Bandar Utama today, it was revealed that football fans will also get to enjoy all 64 matches via an app for mobile devices (Apple and Android devices only), as well as via the web on any PC/laptop.

Astro head of sports Lee Choong Kay said the Astro Go 2014 FIFA World Cup App is being offered for the first time.

The Football Pass to download the app will be made available for free to all Astro subscribers who are Astro SuperPack customers before June 1.

However, other Astro subscribers can purchase the Football Pass for RM100 to download the app and view the live telecast via the app or on a personal computer too.

"Football Pass holders will be able to watch all 64 matches live on their tablets, smartphones and personal computers," Lee said, adding that there will be no additional costs to watch the live matches, aside from the one-time charge of RM100.

However, Astro has announced that one does not even have to be an Astro subscriber to enjoy the live telecast of WC2014 matches.

Non-Astro subscribers can also purchase the Football Pass for RM100, then enjoy the live matches for an additional Pay-Per-View price of RM6 per match, on mobile devices and via the web.

The viewing experience on the Astro Go 2014 FIFA World Cup App will be enhanced with 6 live multi-cam feeds to fully capture the excitement of matches. Favourite moments can be replayed with the tap of a finger during live matches and viewers can watch key moments of all matches in multi-angle.

Lee said that 10 channels have been dedicated for the upcoming World Cup, which will begin on June 12 and end on July 13.

Astro will also be screening live telecast of 30 matches on its free sports channel Astro Arena (Ch 801) with Bahasa Malaysia commentary.

Meanwhile, former England and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey, who was a special guest at the launch today, said England had a fair chance of winning the 2014 World Cup.

Heskey, who won 62 caps and scored seven goals for England, told reporters that the English team had a number of gifted players.

"I see no reason why England will not perform well in Brazil under manager Roy Hodgson," Heskey said. – April 29, 2014.
