The flood situation in Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor and Perak is reportedly improving, while in Selangor all the flood evacuees have been allowed to return home.

In Kelantan, the number of flood victims has dropped, from 151,072 people in the morning to 147,072 people in the evening, said State Social Welfare Department director Nik Omar Nik Abdul Rahman, when contacted by Bernama.

According to the state flood portal, as at 5pm, the water level of Sungai Kelantan at the Krai Steps, the Guillemard Bridge in Tanah Merah and Tambatan Diraja in Kota Baru, apart from Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang, has receded, but still above the danger level.

The weather is reported cloudy.

In Terengganu, with the flood water receding and the weather improving, more flood victims are returning home.

According to the Terengganu State National Security Council portal, some 570 flood victims, especially in Kemaman have returned to their respective villages.

There are still 32,210 people still at 75 relief centres in the state, from 32,782 people at noon today.

In Pahang, the number of evacuees showed a slight increase to 35,501 people, from 33,225 people. They are at 234 relief centres in eight districts.

A spokesman at the Pahang police operations room said two evacuation centres in Rompin, which were closed this morning, had been reopened to accommodate 29 flood victims.

In Perak, the number of people evacuated in Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Perak Tengah and Kerian has dropped to 7,407 (1,948 families), from 7,540 at noon.

The State National Security Council spokesman said the flood victims were at 22 evacuation centres in Kuala Kangsar, Perak Tengah (19), Hulu Perak (11) and one in Kerian.

In Johor, the number of flood evacuees dropped to 175 people (50 families), from 328 people (84 families) at noon.

According to the State Disaster Operations Control Centre, 100 flood victims are at two evacuation centres in Batu Pahat, Segamat (44 victims/three centres), Muar (18 victims/one centre) and Kluang (13 victims/two centres).

In Selangor, all 33 flood victims from nine families staying at the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Binjai have been allowed to return home.

Selangor Fire and Rescue assistant direction (operations) Mohd Sani Harul, when contacted by Bernama, said all the relief centres were now closed. – Bernama, December 29, 2014.
