The Evoque needs no introduction by now. Still the 'it' car of the moment, it has all the desirability of a Range Rover, with a beautiful interior and styling turned up to 11. Positioned right at the premium end of the compact SUV market, the Evoque exudes class and style well above its peers. It's a brilliantly successful interpretation of how relevant, approachable and striking a contemporary 4x4 can look. There's simply nothing like it.
The steering is always precise and confident and only occasionally do you sense the Evoque's height. It feels like a big hot hatchback with an especially good vantage point, and the damping is beautifully controlled outside of town use, where its rubber band tyres would struggle to absorb sharp jolts from entering the cabin. As a driving tool it's as composed and confidence inspiring as the very best of them.
The real mark of a car like this is how happy you are to climb into it at 7pm on a Friday evening in the centre of town, and how you feel climbing out again 300km away three hours later. The Evoque is absolutely first class at that sort of thing. What's most impressive is that there's an absence of niggles. It's positively engaging on any journey and, on a long haul, there are few better cars to be in.
Dramatic as the three-door 'coupé' looks, the five-door is the more practical machine. It also costs RM30,000 less, and it looks striking enough, doesn't it? Inside, the Evoque brings new dynamism and sparkle to the marque. You will find no better plastics, leathers or textures at this price. It's a class act inside and out.
Its showroom and visual appeal is second to none and with its excellent driving dynamics and interior quality, the Evoque is quite simply the premium compact SUV of choice. No other rival even comes close to offering the same level of whiz, bang and fizzle. On the right road, with the right company, you could well believe that life doesn't get much better than in a Range Rover Evoque.
