Yu Kang admires Donnie Yen despite his difficult demands

25 Apr – Groomed to become the next generation of martial arts stars, Chinese action actor Yu Kang admitted that his mentor Donnie Yen was extra hard on him in terms of testing his action capabilities.

Oriental Daily reported that the actor, dubbed "Donnie Yen's disciple" by the media, revealed that Donnie once asked him to rehearse a fight scene with him using a real axe for the movie "The Iceman 3D".

"My character uses an axe as a weapon. Originally, I was given a lighter version, but he asked me to use the real weapon to fight him because he said that the lighter ones have no 'real feeling'," said Yu Kang.

However, Yu Kang finally admitted defeat and begged Donnie to stop, as the axe was very heavy.

"When he saw that my hands were numb and my face was pale, he finally let me rest," he said.

Nonetheless, Yu Kang said he admires Donnie Yen much the same.

"He is always looking for something new and is very demanding in what he wants. For example, there may be some dangerous stunts that if one gets lucky, one may get to perform well once out of ten attempts. But he will want it to be done eight times perfectly!" said Yu Kang.

When asked if the stunts Donnie demanded troubled him, Yu Kang replied, "I am used to it. I have a Kung Fu background and I can take it."
